WHY PAYARA DRAGON FLY
The versatility of a tube fly has no equal.
* It lasts longer. During the fight, the fly slides off the hook and rig, keeping it away from those gnarly teeth.
* Never lose the fly. If a rig or hook gets damaged, rusty, broken or loses its point, just swap the rig and keep fishing with the same fly.
* Go bigger. Join several flies together to make a larger one.
* Tune the action. Adding weight at different points on the fly is easy.
* Your rig, your choice. Use the rig you prefer.
* Hook up or hook down. Change the hook position to avoid snags on rocks and sticks.
One word: Versatility!
HOW TO FISH IT
Gear
Rod: 10 to 12 weight
Line: sinking tip, 400 to 500 grain, 9 ips
Leader: 6 ft max, 30 to 40 lb
Shock tippet: about 10 in of wire, tied to the leader with a Slim Beauty knot and to the fly's rig with a figure 8 knot.
How to fish it
-Cast upstream, let the fly sink, then start fast one- or two-hand strips once the line is in front of you to cut across the current.
-Cast upstream, let the fly get deep and drift with the current. Swing it, then strip it back up through the flow.
-Swing the fly through every channel, however narrow.
-Target the water behind rocks, eddies next to the current, and deep pools.
-If you get several strikes in one spot and the action slows, change the fly color. It can turn the bite back on.
Hook-up tips
-When you feel a strike, keep the rod tip low and strip strike.
-Keep the rod in line with the fly. Holding that angle increases your hook-up rate; with the rod even slightly to the side, it drops.
Never trout strike and go easy on the reel drag,
