The Original Popper is a hand-tied topwater popper fly built to make noise and trigger explosive strikes. Its pearl and silver head pushes water and pops on every retrieve, while the white synthetic hair and black back give it a classic baitfish profile.

Specs: 6" long, 5/0 hook.
Made for peacock bass, but it also works for golden dorado, tuna, jacks, mahi-mahi and other aggressive surface feeders.

WHY THIS POPPER FLY
In the jungle and at sea, most predators hear noise as an easy meal. It can mean a wounded baitfish or a feeding frenzy, and commotion draws predators in.
This popper is built to create exactly that.
* Noise. It pops and calls fish in.
* Bubbles. It leaves a trail of bubbles as it moves.
* Flash. Plenty of shine to catch the eye.
* Life even at rest. Its pearl skirt keeps moving when the fly sits still.
HOW TO FISH IT
Gear
* Rod: 9 to 12 weight
* Line: floating, with an aggressive taper
* Leader: 6 ft max, 20 to 40 lb
In the jungle
* Cast to the banks.
* Work structure: sunken trees, rocks and the like.
* Cast to beaches in the morning and/or evening.
* Use it in the deep areas of lagoons.
* Drift it in currents, then start stripping once it reaches the slow zone.
In the sea
* Fish it on flats or in the shallows.
* Run it along drop-offs.
* Cast over feeding frenzies.
* Use it near bait balls.
Retrieve
The strip can be slow and pausing, or fast.
Pro tip
Cast to a likely spot, or close to a predator you can see, like a barracuda or a peacock bass. Lift the fly 2 or 3 times, exploding the popper in the same place before letting it drop into the zone, then start stripping. This usually drives them crazy.
